   personally i would go with scenario #2 for short term and #3 for long term

   i would minimize all other outgoing external links from both x & y – make them no follow except the link you are connecting to your PR 0 and PR Y sites

   The reason I’m asking is because I found many 3-type networks. PR0s – affiliate websites / landing pages.

   When you say “many” is it statistically significant? If yes, all in one niche, brand, section of rankings etc.?

   Personally I avoid interlinking my own websites. It seems borderline black hat seo to me. Technically the search engines could consider this as a linking scheme meant to artificially boost rankings. Instead I take the time to build links offsite instead. If you keep your websites completely separate, it keeps them much more secure.
