Setting financial goal – recover the initial investment in six months

As you know, I decided to make some money from my blog. But how much I want? One dollar, or two, or three? It’s not a big deal. If I were man who needs a dollar, I would create blog (or several blogs) on blogspot.com, put Google AdSense and ask my friends to click ads. But I don’t need one dollar and I don’t want to cheat. I need some more.

What about selling weight loss pills? I know guys who are successful in this business. But it’s not for me. I’d create fitness related website instead of poisoning people.

I want to create stable income-generating blog. I want to produce valuable content for my visitors. Only this approach is acceptable for me. But it takes time, as well as money. It’s like running your own small business. Any business needs initial investment. You have to register domain and buy hosting. I’ve done it already. My initial balance is -$78,30. (You can always find my current balance on the main page.) So why not to return this money? It’s a good goal for a novice like me. What about payback period? How much time I needed to recover the initial investment?

High traffic is a key to success. At this moment (21 Oct 2008), I don’t have visitors. I haven’t submitted my blog to search engines yet. I have no incoming links. My blog is lonely iceberg in the World Wide Web ocean :) You might ask how I’m gonna make $78.30 without traffic? I’ll do my best. But now, I need to set a deadline. I believe I can do it in six months. How?

My monthly revenue from Google AdSense could be around $5. I assume that I can achieve 50 visits per day or about 100 page impressions (2 impressions per visit). CTR and CPC will be around 1.5% and $0.1, respectively. If you put these estimates into this tool you find that monthly earnings could be $4,50 (or $27 in six months).

How can I get the rest of the money ($51.3)? Well I don’t know :) Maybe I have to find advertisers that I can promote. I can join Amazon.com’s Associates for example. Associates earn up to 15% in referrals fees. Unfortunately I don’t know much about it. My estimate – $78,30 in six months is not accurate. But I believe this goal is feasible. If you think that payback period is too short, or you know how to achieve my goal, please write a comment. I appreciate any help from my visitors.
